  • Are We Going to Let Evil Win?

Last week I received an email from one of Lighthouse Communities' Board Members, Terri.  Terri and her husband Martin live in our neighborhood two blocks behind us and the Haywards.  Terri and Martin had to leave their home as the police felt it would be unsafe for them to stay.  Terri and Martin are passionate Community Activists and are working hard to make their block a great place to live. Unfortunately they have quite a few very rough neighbors that are into quite a bit of illicit activities.

Like any good neighbor, Terri and Martin report a lot of illegal activity to the police.  Last week the police heard rumor that some of the members of the local gang were out to get them and advised them to leave.

Sadly, I just received this email from Terri:

Unfortunately, I am going to have to step away from my [work on Lighthouse's board] as we are unable to return to our home for what looks to be the long term and have many arrangements to make in terms of housing, our baby's arrival in 14.5 weeks, etc.

We have an "official" hit on our lives that has been confirmed through the GRPD detectives and local "buzz," and apparently, a group of Boys had a plan in place to rush our house and shoot us last week. We have
reported a lot of activity, which has hindered the drug and prostitution operation next door, and I guess the last straw was when we "cooperated" with the police by calling 911 as a young man walked up the middle of our block shooting last Monday night as we watched him. His boys are not happy that he is going back to prison, etc.

Anyway, police have a camera tracking activity from our upstairs window, and we have to find a place to move rather than live in the current reality of potential ambush or with the upcoming surprise factor of being targeted when we are getting comfortable a few months down the road.

Don't know where we'll end up or what we're going to do with the house, but we can't risk our little boy's life, nor do we want to lose each other no matter how ready we are to be with our Lord. :)

This email makes me very angry and sad!   I feel both emotions as I consider that evil won on this block.  I am mad that no other neighbors have stepped up to help Terri and Martin.  I wish there was something I could do...I feel helpless.
